Palmetto Championships

Dear Junior Players & Parents,

We are aware of the potential school conflicts with this year's tournament, with many of you going to school through June 5, and some being involved with high school graduation even later than that.  Since the Palmetto is the state junior qualifying tournament for the Southern Closed Championships, we must finish the tournament by noon on Monday, June 9.

This requires us to begin qualifying in the 12's, 14's & 16's with a possibility of some matches on Tuesday afternoon, June 3.  Any Tuesday matches will be scheduled as late as possible.  Qualifying will continue on Wednesday, June 4.  Since the Boy's 18's is not limited to 32 players, we expect to start main draw matches in that division on Wednesday, June 4.  Efforts will also be made to schedule these matches as late as possible.  The 10's will start with some late afternoon matches on Thursday, June 5.  The 10's finals will be played on Sunday morning, June 8; all other finals will be played on Monday, June 9.

Doubles matches in any draw that exceeds 16 teams may be required in the late afternoon on Wednesday, June 4.

We encourage you to go to your teachers and principals now to discuss the situation, and try to make alternate arrangements.  If a contact is needed from us, we will be glad to make a phone call or send an e-mail.  Also, please be aware we will do all we can within reason to schedule matches around school conflicts, however, we must know about these conflicts well in advance.

We have studied our options (such as split weekends) closely, but do not feel these are good for the players or the tournament.  We hope you will be able to make the necessary arrangements and be with us in June for the 52nd Wachovia Palmetto Championships.
